The Globalization of British Medicine

Explore a series of maps depicting yearly medicine exports from the port of London from 1697 to 1780. You can also scroll through the entire series (by hitting tab on some browsers) or view it here. Please be aware, however, that these are my working visualizations so they may need a few adjustments here or there. The maps document the growth of a global trade in manufactured medicines across the plantations, garrisons, and trading posts of the British empire. For a more detailed discussion of the data and its analysis, see my book Merchants of Medicines where you can also find the updated maps. The data were compiled from CUST 3/1-82, TNA and visualized by myself and Natty Jumreornvong at the Center for Spatial and Textual Analysis at Stanford University in 2016-17.
